Dancing Apsaras (Celestial Dancers) of Angkor Wat (Temple City).
Presumed a souvenir from the 20th Century, symbolic of the temple reliefs found in Cambodia, Khmer, Angkor Wat Period (ca. 12th century AD).
This relief sculpture piece from Angkor Wat features four unique dancers, carved on a 3 x 4 inch natural sandstone carving. The carving includes designs along the top and bottom.
Relief is a sculptural method where sculpted pieces remain attached to a solid background. The term relief comes from the Latin verb relevare, meaning to raise (‘to lift back').
