Joe Light Painted Fish Colorblock Art

Joe Louis Light (1934-2005) lived in Memphis most of his adult life, and after a religious awakening, followed Old Testament practices and beliefs, referring to himself as a "black man of the Jewish faith". He worked in two- and three-dimensional media, and for years maintained an outdoor environment on his property, displaying paintings, sculpture, and his hand-lettered signs expressing often controversial opinions. His work has been exhibited in many museum shows, including Passionate Visions(New Orleans M. of Art), and Coming Home (University of Memphis). <br><br>This original work of art is hand painted and signed by the artist. It is dated 11-21-97 and measures approximately 13” long x 6.5” wide. The medium is a metal serving dish, which is painted white with green trim. The fish painted red with a green head and fins, and blue and yellow scales. The piece is in good vintage condition. There is some faint writing on the back which I have not attempted to remove.
